Zenith Brunch & Cocktails, Pena

Tip: Try the ‘Eggs Zenith’ if you’re intrigued by the prospect of breaded poached eggs, you won’t regret it. As the name implies, they also serve their renowned cocktails every day from 5-7pm. It would be rude not to.

Fauna & Flora, Santos

Tip: Go for their particularly naughty range of pancakes, all for a reasonable €6.50 (we recommend the ‘Guilty’ ones – you’ll see why… we said ‘kind-of-healthy’, okay?) and delicious smoothies which are hard to turn down.

Café Janis, Cais do Sodré

Café Janis’ fame can’t only be put down to its particularly aesthetic interior, which looks somewhere between a Parisienne art gallery and a greenhouse; the food is also pretty damn good.

Tip: We strongly recommend the Full Hearty Breakfast, because if you’re going to treat yourself to a brunch out, you may as well do it properly.

Heim Café, Santos

Tip: Go for their delicious salads and slightly less-healthy choices such as their famous pancakes and french toasts, once you make it past the usual queue of people all eagerly awaiting a table.

Early Birds, São Bento

Tip: We recommend the Avo Toast with grilled mushrooms (we also added poached eggs and bacon, but we were feeling particularly fragile that day).

Wish slow coffee house, Lx Factory

Tip: Treat yourself to one of their brunch menus (everyday, all-day), one of which even includes poffertjes (those delicious tiny little Dutch pancakes). Go to find out which one...

Dear Breakfast, São Bento

Tip: Boasting a very chic interior under arched high ceilings, Dear Breakfast is a classy option but by no means a more expensive one - we give you yet another pancake haven (healthy is proving to be quite difficult, we have discovered).

Cotidiano, Baixa

Tip: Brand new, classy, and a hit among Lisbon's foodie crowd. Try the pancakes with almond butter and caramelized banana (€7.50 - banana is a fruit, so that counts as healthy, right?!).

Ela Canela, Campo de Ourique

All the produce at this endearing spot is local and sustainable, and the food is as beautiful to look at as it is to eat.

Tip: Their smoothie selection is also very nice indeed – try the ‘antioxidante’.

Comoba, Cais do Sodré

This café should definitely be on your list thanks to its beautifully light and spacious interior, great coffee and freshly baked bread.

Tip: We recommend the matcha pancake and the breakfast burrito. Why not have both?

Well, we are sufficiently hungry after writing this list, and we hope we’ve inspired many brunches to come. Happy eating, everyone!
